Bill Hammack has pioneered new and novel approaches to engineering outreach. From 1999 to 2006 he created a groundbreaking series of over 200 pieces for public radio that described what engineers do, why they do it and how they. His pieces appear on Illinois Public Radio, public radio's business program Marketplace, and Australia's Science Show. This work has been collected in a book. Most recently he's broken new ground using new media. He has creating an on going "engineerguy" series of videos that has received millions of views. To help his engineering colleagues understand the power and promise of new media he wrote a short primer entitled Why Engineers Need to Grow a Long Tail.
