Eighth Annual Graduate Research Symposium
Friday, October 16, 2009

Members of the ChBE Graduate Student Advisory Council and the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering organized the "8th Annual Graduate Research Symposium". Upper level graduate students were urged to make oral presentations and more recent students were encouraged to make poster presentations of their research.

Faculty, students and symposium judges gathered Friday morning to hear ten graduate students present research that was an integration and compilation of their work at the University of Illinois. After lunch, eleven poster presentations generated discussion and provided the presenters with feedback on their research. Three former alumni and friends of the School of Chemical Sciences graciously consented to be judges and provided the students with insights gained from their experience in the commercial world. The symposium was well attended and the judges were positive in their comments on the caliber of the presentations. The students learned from last year's recommendations for presentation improvement, especially in giving introductions that explained the concepts and why the work was important.
