ChBE GSAC launches food drive to benefit Eastern Illinois Foodbank

Each year the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department hosts a food drive to benefit the Eastern Illinois Foodbank, the primary food source for food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and other programs working to feed the hungry in East Central Illinois.

Your support matters! Join us to fight hunger in Eastern Illinois!

In keeping with tradition, the ChBE Graduate Students Advisory Council (GSAC) is hosting a “Food Wars” competition between research groups for the chance to win bragging rights and earn the ChBE “Food Wars” trophy! In addition, each donation grants entry to a charity raffle with prizes from local restaurants.

Check out the results here.

Dates: November 5-26, 2018

Location: Room 99, Roger Adams Laboratory

Drop off: 8:30 a.m.-noon, 1-5 p.m.

Anyone can donate. All donations are eligible for entry into the charity raffle. Prizes from local restaurants will be awarded at the end of the drive.

Help your research group make an impact, win bragging rights, and earn the ChBE “Food Wars” trophy by donating the following foods (parenthesis indicates points/oz. awarded). Boxed foods can be donated to award negative points to competing groups.

Points/Ounce Item
3 peanut butter, canned meat, canned complete  meals (e.g. soups, ravioli)
2 canned fruits/vegetables
1 any other canned goods
-1 any boxed goods
-5 any toiletries, cleaning products, pet food

Trophies will be awarded to the groups with the highest total point and total points per person! As the food drive progresses, GSAC will post up-to-date scores at the top of this page.

All donations benefit the Eastern Illinois Foodbank, working to combat hunger in a 17-county area of eastern Illinois. Champaign County’s poverty rate is greater than 20 percent and one out of seven individuals in Eastern Illinois struggle with hunger, including one in five children. Your donation matters!
