Dawn Eriksen, a graduate student in the research group of Professor Huimin Zhao, was the recipient of the Best Poster Presentation in Metabolic Engineering at the Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology annual meeting in San Diego on August 13.
More than 70 posters were submitted to the Metabolic Engineering poster section. Eriksen’s research is based on developing new tools for optimizing biosynthetic pathways in yeast for specialty chemical and biofuel production.
The title of the poster was “Directed Evolution of a Cellobiose Utilization Pathway in Saccharomyces cerevisiae by Simultaneously Engineering Multiple Proteins,” which was authored by Eriksen, Pei Chiun Helen Hsieh, Patrick Lynn, and Zhao.
