2024 Spring Convocation

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is planning an in-person convocation ceremony to celebrate your academic achievements. The departmental convocation recognizes ChBE graduates who earned bachelor's and master's degrees and includes a hooding ceremony for our doctoral graduates.  

 Herff Jones is now accepting student regalia orders for the Spring/May 2024 Convocation Ceremony. 

When:
Sunday, May 12, 2024
9:00 a.m. | Doors open at 8:00 a.m.

Where:
Smith Memorial Hall (805 S. Mathews Ave., Urbana)
Reception to follow at Centennial Plaza (between Noyes Lab and the Chemistry Annex on South Mathews Ave.)

Registration:
Registration is required to participate in the ceremony. Registration guarantees you six guest tickets. Deadline to register is Friday, April 12, 2024.

Notes:

  • This event is for graduating ChBE students only, and is separate from any college and campus ceremonies. Students may choose to attend those ceremonies as well.
  • Academic attire is required for all graduates who participate in our convocation ceremony;  information about academic attire, including how to order, is available on the Commencement website.
  • Instructions to change how your name will appear on your diploma and transcript can be found on the Registrar’s websiteDiploma names dictate what is displayed on your diploma and are used in the convocation program, lists of graduates, etc. If you have any questions about your diploma, please call the Office of the Registrar at (217) 333-0210.
  • The university plans to capture photographs and video of this event. Be aware that if you attend, you are consenting to the possibility that your image and likeness may be shared or published by the university for marketing-communications purposes.

Spring 2024 Keynote Speaker

Bob Dudley

Bob Dudley (BS 78)  is the retired CEO of BP. Dudley’s career with BP spanned over 40 years, during which he served in a broad range of engineering, commercial, strategic, international and executive roles. In 2018, he was named the Petroleum Executive of the Year by Energy Intelligence. Currently, Dudley is chair of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative, an international organization which is committed to accelerating the industry’s response to climate change. He serves as a director of LyondellBasell and Freeport-McMoRan, and in recent years launched Dudley Solar Developments. Dudley serves on the boards of several organizations, and is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in Britain. In addition to his B.S. degree from Illinois, Bob earned an MBA from Southern Methodist University and an MIM from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.
