Jerrod A. Henderson
Jerrod Henderson is a passionate educator who has committed himself to increasing the number of underrepresented students obtaining degrees and pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. While he was a lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, he co-founded the St. Elmo Brady STEM Academy, an innovative afterschool program that introduces underrepresented elementary students to hands-on, inquiry-based STEM activities. The program has since expanded to the University of Houston, where he is now on the faculty. Henderson is also a recipient of the College of Liberal Arts Sciences Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2019. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Morehouse College. He has supported ChBE by establishing a merit-based scholarship awarded to students who add to the diversity of perspectives in the department.
