Jerrod A. Henderson
Jerrod Henderson is a passionate educator who has committed himself to increasing the number of underrepresented students obtaining degrees and pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. While he was a lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, he co-founded the St. Elmo Brady STEM Academy, an innovative afterschool program that introduces underrepresented elementary students to hands-on, inquiry-based STEM activities. The program has since expanded to the University of Houston, where he is now on the faculty. Jerrod is also a recipient of the College of Liberal Arts Sciences Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2019. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Morehouse College. He has suported the department by estabshing a merit-based scholarship awarded to students who add to the department’s diversity.
