Theresa SchoetzThe Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is pleased to announce the arrival of a new faculty member, Theresa Schoetz, who recently joined the department as an Assistant Professor.

Schoetz's research focuses on the development of electrochemical materials and interfaces for next-generation batteries and supercapacitors that can be integrated in modern electronics. Her research group’s scientific philosophy is to identify, understand, and control the molecular-level phenomena that govern macroscopic material properties, charge storage mechanisms, mass transport processes and device performance using a variety of electrochemical, spectroscopy and microscopy methods. Reconfigurable shape-morphing batteries that take electrochemical interfaces in energy storage systems far beyond their current state-of-the-art design space are of particular interest.

Next spring and fall, Schoetz will teach Mass Transport Operations and Electrochemical Engineering.

“I am excited about being able to train the next generation of electrochemists,” Schoetz said about beginning her research and teaching career.

Schoetz earned her B.Eng. from Brandenburgische Technische Universität (Hochschule Lausitz), Germany (2013), M.Sc. from Technische Universität Ilmenau, Germany (2016), and Ph.D. University of Southampton, UK (2019). She was a postdoc at the University of Southampton and, most recently, a Research Associate at The City College of New York, CUNY.
