Chemical and biomolecular engineering professor and cancer survivor Brendan Harley recently shared his story from patient to researcher with NPR, part of a series called “Life After Diagnosis.”
Harley’s work primarily revolves around the invasive brain tumor, glioblastoma. His lab utilizes tissue engineering methods to create models of tumor microenvironments and study how glioblastoma interacts with the brain. The end goal is to better understand how tumors grow and progress, and identify better ways to target them. In addition to being the Robert W. Schaefer Professor in ChBE, Harley is Research Program Leader at Cancer Center of Illinois.
