Members of the Illinois student chapter of the American Institute for Chemical Engineer (AIChE) received various honors including being named an outstanding student chapter at this year’s annual student conference.
This was the third year in a row that the chapter accepted this honor. Sixteen students from Illinois’ AIChE chapter traveled to the conference that took place in San Francisco, California from November 1-3. While there, students met with engineering professionals and other students to share and develop career skills and participated in competitions to foster teamwork and innovation.
Besides receiving the Outstanding Student Chapter Award, Jae Kwan Song was honored with the Outstanding Freshmen Award and Nicholas Connolly received the Sophomore Academic Excellence Award.
Illinois AIChE Chapter President Erica Peterson said the group was honored to win the Outstanding Student Chapter Award for the third year in a row. “It shows that our chapter gives our members a very well-rounded experience through the events we host,” she said.
AIChE Advisor and Department Lecturer Troy Vogel said AIChE is a great group that provides students with opportunities to lead.
“The student leaders and very active members provide opportunities for the chapter’s members to meet employers from various industries, to tour plants, and to perform mock interviews as well as professional development,” Vogel said.
Peterson said the national conference was a good way to learn about ways to make the chapter even better. “The National Conference is a great opportunity to attend multiple student and professional-led workshops about how to improve our chapter through new events and our professional careers.”
