Chemical and biomolecular engineering professor Simon Rogers has been named a 2022-2023 I. C. Gunsalus Scholar by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. Named scholar positions recognize contributions to education and research at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

The I. C. Gunsalus endowment supports the development of the scholarship and teaching of young faculty members in the physical and life sciences. The distinction includes the use of the title for the next academic year and a stipend to support research and teaching.

"I am grateful for this recognition and the support of the I. C. Gunsalus endowment that will support my research group's collaborations in the physical sciences," Rogers said, who uses experimental and computational tools to understand and model advanced colloidal, polymeric, and self-assembled materials. He earned bachelor’s and honors degrees in physics from Victoria University of Wellington and a doctorate in physics from the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnologies at Victoria University. He joined the department in 2015.

Previous Gunsalus Scholars from the department include associate professor Ying Diao (2021-2022) and Robert W. Schaefer Professor Brendan Harley (2015-2016).
