The Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute (IHSI) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has selected associate professor Simon A. Rogers for the 2024-25 Emerging Research Leaders Academy. The program is designed to help mid-career faculty to achieve research success, and provides vital leadership and team science training to pursue large, multi-PI grants, lead campus research initiatives, enhance their own research programs, and ultimately position Illinois for research excellence.
Rogers is one of only 15 faculty across campus to be selected for this year’s cohort. Materials Science & Engineering professor Qian Chen, a ChBE affiliate faculty member, was also selected.
Rogers joined the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Illinois faculty in 2015, where his multidisciplinary research focuses on advanced colloidal, polymeric and self-assembled materials for biomedical, energy and environmental applications. In 2024, Rogers was named to a three-year term as Editor-in-Chief of Rheologica Acta, the official journal of The European Society of Rheology. Among his honors are the Arthur B. Metzner Early Career Award from the Society of Rheology (2022), a National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2019) and New Investigator Award from the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund (2018).
