The issue gathered “the very best work from materials chemists in the early stages of their independent career, with a special focus on novel design strategies for new functional materials,” according to the journal.

In her article with graduate student Hyunjoong (Tim) Chung, Diao presented a unique perspective of polymorphism as a design tool to enhance electronic performance and fundamental understanding of the relationship between charge transport and molecular packing in organic electronics.

The special issue is available online, “Emerging Investigators 2016: Novel design strategies for new functional materials.”

Diao, a Dow Chemical Company Faculty Scholar, pursues fundamental understanding and control of molecular assembly processes to achieve sustainable manufacturing of therapeutic products and energy devices. She joined the department in 2015. She earned her PhD from MIT and her BS from Tsinghua University.
