Chemical and biomolecular professor Hong Yang has been named as Deputy Editor of Science Advances, the online extension of Science magazine, published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Science Advances is an open access journal launched in 2015.
Yang will be part of the Physical and Materials Sciences group, with editorial responsibilities encompassing manuscripts on electrocatalysis and electrochemical processes, nanomaterials and related topics.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of high-quality scientific research and to collaborate with a distinguished group of editorial members,” Yang said. “I look forward to supporting the publication of impactful work in key areas of sciences.”
Yang joined the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign faculty in 2012, where he is the Richard C. Alkire Chair in Chemical Engineering. In his research, Yang uses material chemistry approaches to the design of nanostructures for energy and catalysis applications. His work places an emphasis on sustainability, with applications in energy, and chemical conversion as applied to fuel cells, generation of hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from biomass, and utilization of carbon dioxide. Among his honors, he is an AAAS Fellow and recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER award. Yang holds a bachelor’s degree from Tsinghua University (1989), master’s degree from the University of Victoria (1994) and doctoral degree from the University of Toronto (1998).
