His research focuses on material chemistry approaches to the design of nanostructures for energy and catalysis applications. Much of his work emphasizes sustainability, with applications in energy, and chemical conversion as applied to fuel cells, generation of hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel from biomass, and utilization of carbon dioxide.

“I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge my former and current group members for their great contributions,” Yang said. “This recognition is more for the entire Yang group rather than me individually.”

Among his other honors, Yang is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER award. At Illinois, he is affiliated with the Department of Chemistry, the Materials Research Laboratory, the Prairie Research Institute and the Center for Advanced Bioenergy and Bioproducts Innovation.

Founded in 1841 as the Chemical Society of London, the RSC’s mission is to advance excellence in the chemical sciences. The organization fosters connections and education in the global chemical science community through partnerships, conferences, events and more. Their publishing portfolio includes many prestigious journals that span the core chemical sciences and related fields, professional reference books, textbooks and periodicals.
