Convocation Ceremonies

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is pleased to celebrate the academic achievements of its students by holding convocation ceremonies.

Winter 2018 convocation

The department will hold a winter convocation at 12 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, in Room 100 of Noyes Laboratory, 505 South Mathews Avenue, Urbana.

A reception will immediately follow the ceremony outside Room 100.

Students should follow this link to register. The deadline for students to register for the ChBE convocation is Friday, Nov. 30, 2018. Tickets are not required for the December ceremony, but students need to register.

Regalia is required for the convocation ceremony. Students should order their cap and gown through Herff Jones. Student cap and gown online ordering will be activated on Oct. 1, 2018. Students will pay for rental when they place their order. Don’t wait to order regalia; deadlines and late fees are set by the vendor.

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences will also host a winter convocation ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018 in Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

Spring 2018 convocation

When: 10 a.m., Sunday, May 13, 2018. Doors open at 9 a.m.

Where: Tryon Festival Theatre, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, 500 South Goodwin Avenue, Urbana.

Spring Convocation Speakers: Corey Correnti (BS ’85) and Deborah Roberts Correnti (BS ’84).

Student information: Students must register in advance for the department ceremony. The registration deadline is April 27. If you have any questions, please contact Becky Lyle, rlyle@illinois.edu, (217) 244-2819.

Once you’ve registered, you’ll need to do the following:

1.  Report your future plans to Career Services. Fill out the section on future plans, print the confirmation page, and bring or send it to the ChBE undergraduate program office in Room 99 RAL.

2.  Complete the department’s senior survey, via this link.

3.  Order your cap and gown through Herff Jones. Regalia is required for the convocation ceremony. Don’t wait to order regalia; deadlines and late fees are set by the vender.

How long is the ceremony?

Approximately 1.5 hours.

Is academic regalia required?

Yes. Order your cap and gown through Herff Jones.

What time do I arrive and where?

Students should arrive by 9 a.m. and meet in the backstage hallway of Tryon Festival Theatre. Doors will open at 9 a.m. for family members.

Is flash photography allowed during the ceremony?

Yes, we encourage your family to take photos. They can come to the front of the stage but are not allowed on stage.

Is videorecording allowed during the ceremony?

Yes.
